As the oldest and largest US manufacturer of saunas and steam rooms, we are intimate with the treacherous ecology that exists in commercial facilities; specifically commercial steam rooms. Commercial steam rooms are warm (115 degrees) moist environments, the ideal conditions for the proliferation of mold, bacteria and viruses (including COVID-19). For years, commercial operators waged their daily war against these conditions with a regiment of toxic chemicals but with little success. In 2012, we developed and introduced the Powerzone product line as a simple and highly effective way to sterilize their steams rooms. For the past eight years, we have been eliminating viruses in hundreds of commercial fitness facilities within the most demanding environments. We are now bringing this technology to our everyday living space.

How is O3 created?

O3 is formed naturally by the UV rays from the sun and/or by lightning. O3 can be created synthetically by passing air through a corona discharge ozone chamber or ultra-violet lamp. When this happens, some of the oxygen molecules split into two separate oxygen atoms. These single atoms then form semi-unstable bonds with the oxygen molecules (O2+O1=O3/Ozone). These oxygen molecules are highly reactive because of the third atom of oxygen. This atom is very eager to break away from the unstable bond and react with any oxidizable compound (organic or inorganic). The O3 created by Powerzone O3 (corona discharge method) is significantly more concentrated than O3 created by UV rays.

What is the life span of O3?

O3 is extremely unstable and has a short lifespan. It will break up into oxygen in 20 to 30 minutes.

How does O3 Disinfect?

O3 is extremely active. When it encounters micro-organisms, O3 will interfere with the metabolism of their cells, through inhibiting and blocking the operation of the enzymatic control system. A sufficient amount of O3 will break through the cell membrane and lead to the destruction of the micro-organism. Thereafter, the rest of O3 naturally reverts to oxygen very quickly.

Is O3 safe?

O3 is the safest and most powerful oxidant known today. However it should only be used in rooms free from humans/pets and the room should not be entered until 30 minutes after the Powerzone has cycled off. O3 performs 3,000 times faster than chlorine as a bactericide and 5 times faster than ultra-violet ray for air and water treatment.
